Cold, it has been cold but I am in one of the warmest places one could be. I am lucky to have a brilliant wife, two amazing children, a couple of cats that let you feel okay about whiling away near the window when the sun is shining, some pretty nice guitars, a perfectly curated hi-fi system and a record collection that constantly surprises me.
The spring/summer season is looking to be as busy as ever. Teaching, gigging and building projects are starting to fill the calendar. The hi-fi will grow cold once again, the cats will wonder where I’ve gone, the sun will be hot and I will be tired. Tonight, it’s 7 degrees outside, we made dinner, the oldest is home from college and Jabbo Smith is playing on the hi-fi. ~ The good ol’ days!

Here in the Midwest of the United States one cannot ignore the fact that winter is upon us. It can be a beautiful time of year but also ruthless and unforgiving of simple mistakes. My day job as a builder slows immensely and it tends not to be an easy transition to a less physical, slower existence. I always have high hopes of tackling those projects I can only daydream about during the summer (writing, recording, art, books, upkeep on the house…). After decades of existence I realize that most of my daydreams never do come to fruition. That’s okay! Luckily there seems to be and endless supply of daydreams and a long winter ahead.
